Dr. Thomas P. Finley, an optometrist in Herndon, VA was awarded the
Virginia Optometric Association’s 2012 Distinguished Achievement
Award. The presentation took place in Williamsburg, VA during the
annual Virginia Optometric Association meeting. Below are the
guidelines for the award followed by the proclamation given. Also
attached is a picture of Dr. Finley receiving the award from President
Joseph Droter.
Distinguished Achievement Award: Presented to the Virginia Optometric
Association Active member who has made distinct, unique, personal
contributions to the profession and the activities of optometry’s
local, state or national organizations. By their actions, the
recipient has brought distinguished credit to him or her self and in
turn to the Virginia Optometric Association. Award may be presented
to an individual once and recognizes lifetime and/or current
accomplishments in any of the following: lecturing or teaching,
writing, research or scholarship, development of devices, inventions,
instrumentation, innovations and improvements of methods for use in
professional practice, public life, and charitable deeds.
The Distinguished Achievement Award goes to the active member who
makes distinct, unique, and personal contributions to the profession
of optometry, recognizing their lifetime and continuous service and
accomplishments. This year goes to a doctor who continues to influence
his local society, serves as a mentor to young doctors, has a
commitment to service and care to charitable organizations, is a past
Board member of numerous local civic and business organizations, and
continues to serve as a valuable member of our profession and his
community. For this ongoing, exceptional service, please recognize
the recipient of our Distinguished Achievement Award, Dr. Tom Finley
of Herndon.
